Name: Delivery of VUV spectral reconstruction model

Lead Beneficiary: CNRS

Beneficiaries involved: CNRS, ROB, PMOD-WRC

Due Date: Month 15 (March 2010)

Goal

The data from upcoming satellites (PROBA2/LYRA, PICARD/PREMOS) and existing (SOHO/SEM, TIMED/SEE) satellites that measure a few spectral bands will be used to deliver a nowcast of the EUV/FUV spectrum. These data will serve as input to the SOCOL-i middle atmosphere model (milestone 5.2)

Progress so far

- A publication on the multiscale reconstruction of spectral bands in the VUV from proxies has just been accepted in Geoph. Res. Lett.: T. Dudok de Wit, M. Kretzschmar, J. Lilensten and T. Woods, Finding the best proxies for the solar UV irradiance (2009).

- A post-doc will be hired from August onwards to design of the online spectral reconstruction model. The announcement was made early April.

- Contact and discussions have started with the team from PMOD on the coupling of their atmospheric model with our model.

Percentage towards the goal: 15%.

Problem areas

None except for the delayed launch of PROBA2 and PICARD, which will provide more time, however, for fine tuning the spectral reconstruction model.
