Goal

As soon as LYRA/PROBA2 is operational and delivering near real time irradiance data, PMOD/WRC will provide on the bases of spectral solar irradiance input as reconstructed by WP A1D5.3:

• a now-casting of the state of neutral and charged species in the middle atmosphere the global chemistry-climate-ionosphere model SOCOL-i developed at PMOD/WRC;
• validation of the model results against different measurements
• improve the SOCOL-i model depending on the validation;
• maintain a web site with nowcasting SOCOL-i results (time-dependent state of neutral and charged species in the middle atmosphere) for public use by the space-weather community (in collaboration with Institut für 4D-Technologien und Data Spaces, Hochschule für Technik FHNW)

Progress so far

The code SOCOL-i has been developed in a precursor project and expanded to the lower ionosphere within the support of SOTERIA. We are ready to take up the operational service.
