Minutes of the Meeting
For point 1, the following actions were decided:
- Andras Ludmany presented the results of the meeting taken place in Brussel the previous day with teh coordinator and the contact person for the Obsparis. The outline of the revised plan for the deliverable was outlined along with the rationale for it. A delay of the first milestone was approved for 6 months noting that no adverse impact will come tot he rest of the project. A followup meeting will take place in April to make a final decision on the status and perspective of the deliverable. The SB further decided to ask the Obsparis to further illustrate their progress and plans at the first general meeting in Davos. The SB approved unanimously the plan and Andras Ludmany will provide a summary of the revised plans for the annual report.
- David Berghmans reported on the successful launch of Proba 2 and of its first operational tests. This will remove the obstacles on the achievement of our deliverables. The SB approved unanimously the plan and David Berghmans and Thierry Dudok de Wit will summarise the status of the Proba2-related deliverables for the annual report.
- David Berghmans illustrated his new plan for the virtual observatory base don a first step where the us-based VSO will at first be used, followed by an in-house modified version and finally with a link to the Helio FP7 program. The SB approved unanimously the plan and Berghmans will summarise it for the annual report and will proceed to complete the delayed milestone.
Among the minor problems identified in the report, plans were discussed to enhance the workplans of Soteria for space high energy and radiation effects on space weather. Plans have been discussed to bring in expert advice at future Soteria meetings and to include the expertise of the UGOE partner into the Soteria effort. Furthermore, problems in hiring foreign personnel have been discussed.
For the annual meeting in Davos, the need for time for open discussion was highlighted and will be incorporated in the plans for the agenda of the Davos meeting. Discussion have been initiated to identify the locale for the second annual meeting and a preliminary consensus has been reached for hosting it at the premises of the Debrecen observatory (KO beneficiary). Further plans for it will be presented by Andras Ludmany at the Davos meeting.
With regards to additional future meeting, the attention focused on the School in Trieste and an action item was decided in forming a list of desiderata (speakers and items) to propose to our partners (ICTP and COST action). The Coordinator will gather information to form the list. The meeting in Davos will be the high point of the process and a list will be approved there.
The issues of legacy and outreach were briefly discussed, with the suggestion of preparing a newsletter highlighting in turn each beneficiary and presenting the latest news and with the suggestion to hold periodic teleconference meetings of the SB. Anras Ludmany outlines the virtues of a software and facility of the Debrecen observatory (KO beneficiary) to facilitate the process. A presentation on it will be made in Davos. Further discussion will take place in Davis during an open SB meeting, where all members of Soteria can contribute their ideas on outreach and legacy.
