As discussed at the SOTERIA 1st General Meeting held in Davos (January 2010, Switzerland), one-day meeting was organized in Leuven on March 19th, with the aim of focusing the SOTERIA effort in deliverable 3.3 "Initiation of flares and CMEs".

Primary topic of the meeting was organization of the joined work. Participants have presented and discussed various aspects of the initiation of CMEs and flares in an informal atmosphere.

The collaborative study of the initiation of a selected event is to be approached by two different models (Tibor Torok, Lidia van Driel-Gesztelyi, Francesco Zuccarello, Alexandar Soenen being the major contributors) describing the selected event.

Furthermore, kinematics of the early stage of the evolution of the erupting system was discussed. Comparison of the velocity and acceleration profiles obtained from the model (Francesco Zuccarello, Alexandar Soenen) and the observation (Bojan Vrsnak) are going to be performed.

Possibility of investigating how the reconnected flux enhances the poloidal flux of the erupting toroidal system was discussed (Bojan Vrsnak, Marina Skender).

Dan Seaton presented new data obtained from Proba 2. The possibility of taking it into collaborative effort was considered.

It was concluded that at least one collaborative publishable article with innovative results should come out as a result of a joined effort (rather than a long review report, as it was done previously).

Also, possibilities in "taking challenge" on modeling the initiation of CMEs and flares by utilising various approaches and tools at ESWW 2010 in Brugge were talked about, where SOTERIA is going to have a splinter meeting on this topic convened by Giovanni Lapenta.

Discussion of the scientific issues related to the deliverable 4.6/4.7 was also taking place, as the two efforts are strongly related to each other.

For further advancing of this collaborative effort Tibor Torok agreed (by email) to visit KU Leuven in the beginning of May.

Participants expressed their opinion that this meeting was very useful.
