Goal

Report on results of Task 4.3 Geomagnetic diagnosis of the state of the magnetosphere and space weather

Successes

The first analysis based on the extended station network shows much greater local disturbances than earlier detected by a smaller network.

Progress so far

At UOulu an extended data base of magnetic observations from 16 stations was collected for 2000-2005. The analysis program was modified to calculate the local disturbances and the Dst/Dcx indices using the enhanced station network. The momentary local disturbances and global asymmetries were calculated and compared with earlier results and reported.

At DTU an event list was established for the study of major events like CMEs. The analysis of these events has been started using several data sets, including the UOulu calculated magnetic disturbances at several local time sectors, as well as global models of the CCMC modelling.
