Beneficiaries involved: KO

Due Date: month 30

Goal

Determination of 2D Dopplergrams and determination of line of sight magnetic fields from the 2D spectro imagery Multichannel Subtractive Double Pass (MSDP at the Meudon Solar Tower) in the NaD1 sodium line. Collection, selection, investigation and online publication of magnetic data.

Progress so far

Developments of the observational instruments were made at Meudon (OBSPARIS):

2D spectro imagery with the Multichannel Subtractive Double Pass (MSDP) is available using the NaD1 line for a small field of view (30 arcsec x 2 arcmin) with the optical layout installed this summer.

Stokes V measurement with the LCVR device are available for NaD1 line for a small field of view.

We experimented successfully, last 25 th of September the possibility of polarization analysis (Stokes V) for the determination of line of sight magnetic fields in MSDP mode on new active region (AR 1026).

Persons involved : G.Molodij, Jean Marie Malherbe, Marion Bonafous, Régis Le Cocguen, Frédéric Dauny, Sylvain Pau, Alain Docclo

STEP 1 (not completed, scheduled for 2010): a new mechanical scanning system to obtain 2D MSDP field of view (2 x 2 arcmin) Na D1 observation will be available during observational campaigns. This device is under construction and has to be computer controlled.

STEP 2 (completed and ready for use): a new control command routine to measure Stokes V polarization using the LCVR device.

STEP 3 (not completed, scheduled for 2010): a new data analysis routine to derive the line of sight magnetic field and dopplergrams for active regions in NaD1 line.

Persons involved part time: G. Molodij, Jean Marie Malherbe, Marion Bonafous, Régis Le Cocguen, Sylvain Pau, Alain Docclo, Frédéric Dauny.

STEP 4 (not completed, scheduled for 2010): Light of sight magnetic field temporal evolution in relation with the extrapolation of the magnetic field in the corona during flares.

Persons involved part time: T Törok, L Van Driel, G.Molodij, G.Aulanier, Jean Marie Malherbe, Marion Bonafous, Régis Le Cocguen.

KO contibutes to the goal of providing online magnetograms. KO started to append the SOHO/MDI selected and filtered recalibreated full-disc magnetograms to all continuum images of the sunspot catalogue SDD. These magnetograms are of lower resolution than those produced by OBSPARIS but the advantage, that this is a full disc series not interrupted by weather and nights, make them a useful secondary source of magnetic data. Full disc magnetic observations are also appended on a daily basis to the DPD (Debrecen Photoheliographic Data) catalogue intended for long-term studies.

Persons involved in this activity on behalf of KO: T. Baranyi, senior scientist, E. Imrek, assistant.

Problem areas:

Meudon (OBSPARIS)

We were waiting some magnetic activities on the Sun to calibrate the measurements. September was not so bad at least.

Suggestions for spin-off, collaboration or improvement:

It should be underline that joint observational campaign with space borne instruments may be regularly scheduled (such as JOP 157, 178 of B .Schmieder with the Meudon Solar Tower). KO and UNIGRAZ maintain ground-based photoheliogram patrol programs in close cooperation and magnetograms can also be substituted from other sources, although in this case the procedure is more laborious.
